Holdown Types:

HDU Holdown
STHD
STHD (Strap Tie Holdown)
CS
CS (Coiled Strap)

MST
MST (Medium Strap Tie)

Anchor Types:

Titen HD®
Titen HD (Heavy-Duty Screw Anchor)
SSTB®
SSTB Anchor Bolt (Simpson Strong Tie Bolt)
PAB
PAB (Pre-assembled Anchor Bolt)

Basic Set Up:

  1. Scroll over to the next section on the Shearwall schedule- labeled NW Anchors [BC-CT].
  2. Check the Stemwall thickness column [CD] is consistent with the project specifications ( typ. 6″).
  3. The next step is to make sure all first floor hold downs are accounting for the additional forces from hold downs above. This requires linking the cells between rows that have shearwalls directly above and below each other (check LFRS)

ex: SW-D21 overlaps SW-D11. SW-D22 overlaps both SW-D12 and SW-D13

4. Now use drop down menus to select HDs and Anchors according to each shearwall:

  • If the shearwall is (EX)- just input “Exist” for both HDs and Anchors
  • If an (EX) shearwall is unchanged after construction, make sure to link the wall segment to the Exist Comparison column [BI].  Then try “Exist” input.
    • If “exist” anchors are still showing red, and if the shearwall is on the ground floor with an existing foundation, try using MST straps and (x)concrete screws first
  • If the shearwall is on the ground floor and has a new foundation, try using HDUs with SSTB anchors first.
  • If the shearwall is on the second floor use CS or MST straps and select N/A for the anchors.
  • Add more studs to the bundle if the RC (column DZ) is showing red.

5. Next, update the HD Inset column according to the type of holddown being used, the number of studs, and the placement of the anchor.

Ex 1: This HDU2 is placed against 2 studs. Measuring from the end of the wall to the center of the bolt, the HD inset would be 4.5″ (2 studs + 1.5″ to center of bolt).

a note: embedded anchors (ex. SSTBs) must be placed atleast 6″ from the corner of the stemwall.
